He struck an optimistic tone about the visit, saying he expected “great things” from the summit and describing Xi as “a friend” with whom he shares a strong personal relationship. Trump also downplayed differences over the US-Israel war with Iran, saying Washington does not need Beijing’s help to resolve the Middle East conflict.
