Bengal Adopts UP Model: Bulldozers Raze Illegal Factories, Loudspeakers Curbed & Tolls Banned

The West Bengal government has initiated a crackdown on illegal activities, adopting an administrative approach resembling the model used in Uttar Pradesh. Following a fire at an unauthorized factory in Kolkata that resulted in two deaths and left three injured, the state administration deployed bulldozers to demolish the illegal structure. The Chief Minister announced that all unlawful factories operating without government-approved building plans will face demolition, alongside the permanent disconnection of their electricity and water supplies. In addition to targeting illegal constructions, the state government has issued immediate orders to restrict the use of loudspeakers at high volumes across religious places, including temples and mosques. Furthermore, district administrations have been directed to dismantle unapproved toll gates, drop gates, and barricades to stop illegal toll collection from vehicular traffic.
